Sermon Summary - Ordinary 17 Year C (Click here for complete sermon)
Ask and you will receive
In the way Jesus taught his disciples to pray, prayer is a simple ordinary part of human life, as natural as the relationships between friends or between parents and children. That is the meaning of the parables in the gospel reading today, with the examples of a man seeking bread from a friend and a father who knows how to give good gifts to his children. A prayer relationship is essentially a very simple thing (the example of a little child: Mark 9:36, 10:15). Prayer was important to Jesus: Luke records Jesus praying on a number of significant occasions: Luke 3:21, 5:16, 6:12, 9:18, 9:28-29, 22:41-42. Praying to God as Father: Jesus taught them to pray to a personal God, with whom they could interact (see below). Can God be persuaded? Jesus encouraged persistence (today's gospel and Luke 18:1-8, Proverbs 25:15, Matthew 15:21-28) In the name of Jesus: for him (See John 14).

Lord, as we search now, let us find you.

OFFERING AND DEDICATION
PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give him thanks and praise.
Accept, O God, our thanks and praise for all you have done for us.
We thank you, Lord.
We thank you for the splendour of the whole creation, for the beauty of this world, and for the enjoyment of the features of
this earth which you have given to all people.
We praise you for the beauty of creation.
We thank you for the wonder of life, for the mystery of love, for the blessing of family and friends and for the loving care
which surrounds us.
We thank you, God, for the blessings of home and family.
We thank you for tasks which demand our best efforts, for the challenge and rewards of work, for accomplishments which
satisfy and delight us, and even for the disappointments and failures that lead us to acknowledge our dependence on you alone.
Thank you, Lord, for the challenge and rewards of work.
Above all, we thank you for your son Jesus Christ, for faithful witness to the gospel by those who brought the good news to
us, and for the fellowship of the church in which we learned the truth of your word and shared the blessings of his death and
resurrection in the power of the Holy Spirit.
All praise and thanksgiving to you our God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.
